Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine, a Philadelphia native is a native of Philadelphia, and was raised there. Her mother Pam was once a backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father proposed her to take on an opportunity to be the curator of the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She together with her family then relocated to the historic mansion. In 2005 she was a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with the vocal music major. Sullivan was first singing in the kids' chorus as a contralto later she joined the adult choir a few years afterwards. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music. She recalls when she was in her 11th year when someone asked her to sing solos in church. However, she was not yet ready for. "I was fortunate enough to be selected for the McDonald's competition, which offered students from big cities the chance to sing "Accept that God is God's Will'. The audience responded positively." When she was 13 years old, she performed alongside Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan signed her first contract with Jive Records when she was fifteen. In Jive Records, she made an entire album. But the album wasn't released. Sullivan was eventually dropped on the labels. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott, who produced a number of the tracks for her debut project, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" that was written and produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
